Leaky gut symptoms, especially those seen in conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, can be multiple and severely debilitating. Without intervention, leaky gut syndrome leads to a lifetime of chronic conditions, pain, and misery.
The inflammation that causes leaky gut syndrome also damages the protective coating of antibodies of the immunoglobulin IGG and IGA family normally present in a healthy gut.
Since immunoglobulins help ward off infections, with leaky gut problems we become less resistant to viruses, bacteria, parasites, and candida. These microbes are then able to invade the bloodstream and colonize almost any body tissue or organ.
In addition to the creation of food allergies, the bloodstream is invaded by bacteria, fungi, and parasites that, in the healthy state, would not penetrate the protective barrier of the gut.
These microbes and their toxins, if present in large enough amounts, can overwhelm the liver’s ability to detoxify.
This results in symptoms such as confusion, memory loss, brain fog or facial swelling when the individual Is exposed to a perfume or to cigarette smoke that he or she had no adverse reactions to prior to the development of leaky gut syndrome.

The term “leaky gut syndrome” is the name given to a very common health disorder in which the gastrointestinal lining that separates our waste from our bloodstream is more permeable (porous) than normal.
The abnormally large spaces present between the cells of the gut wall allow the entry of toxic material into the bloodstream that would, in healthier circumstances, be blocked and eliminated.
The gut becomes leaky in the sense that bacteria, fungi, parasites and their toxins, undigested foods such as proteins, nerve and connective tissue, fat and waste normally not absorbed into the bloodstream in the healthy state, pass through a damaged, hyperpermeable, porous or “leaky” gut.
This can be verified by special gut permeability urine tests, microscopic examination of the lining of the intestinal wall, as well as the bloodstream with phase contrast or dark field microscopy of living whole blood, and food allergy testing.
But lifestyle examination can provide a quicker and simpler diagnosis.

The biggest damage is made by the proteins found in un-sprouted grains, sugar, GMO’s and conventional dairy.
The problem with un-sprouted grains is their large amounts of nutrient blockers called phytates and lectins. Lectins are sugar-binding proteins that act as a natural defense system for plants and they protect them from invaders like mold and parasites.
This is good news for plants but bad news for your body. Your digestive lining is covered with sugar-containing cells that help break down your food. Lectins move towards this area and when they connect to your digestive lining, they damage your gut and cause inflammation.
Some of the lectins and foods that cause leaky gut are wheat, rice, spelt and soy. GMO and hybridized foods have lots of lectins because they have been modified to fight off bugs.
Conventional cows milk contains a harmful protein called A1 casein. Also, the pasteurization process of the milk destroys many vital enzymes and makes sugars such as lactose very difficult to digest.
Sugar will feed the growth of bad bacteria, which will further damage your gut.

- Raw Cultured Dairy – Contains both probiotics and SCFA’s that can help to heal the gut. Yogurt, amasai, butter and raw cheese are the best.
- Fermented Vegetables – Contain organic acids that balance intestinal pH and probiotics to support the gut. Sauerkraut, kimchi, and kvass are a good choice.
- Coconut Products– They are good for your gut. The MCFA’s in coconut are easier to digest than other fats and can be very helpful.
- Sprouted Seeds – Chia seeds, flaxseeds and hemp seeds that have been sprouted are great sources of fiber and can help the growth of beneficial bacteria. But if you have a severe leaky gut, you will need to get fiber from steamed vegetables and fruit.
